Tonight the Southern Aurora departed Sydney Terminal on an 11 day adventure to Melbourne, Brisbane, and much of New South Wales in between, hauled by NSWRTMs veteren locomtives 44211, 4490, and 4306. I grabbed the camera, the tripod, and the missus, and popped down to Central to snap a few pics (click for larger versions). I’m still finding my feet with night photography, so excuse them being mostly ordinary.
I took a gamble that by foregoing the long walk up platform one to get shots of the lead locomotive 44211, I could head somewhere in the inner west to get a shot and video of the train passing by – unfortunately it didn’t pay off, with the Southern Aurora leaving on time, and being a station or two ahead of us the whole way. Better luck next time …
